Socrates, Plato and Aristotle

October 10, 2007 · 1 Comment

Please Do Now:

  1. How can a baker  bake fifty absolutely identical cookies?
  2. Why are all horses the same?
  3. How did Plato and Aristotle answer the question of whether or not man had an immortal soul? (Clearly, there is no right answer for you to say in this class).

Today, students will:

  1. Compare and contrast Socrates, Plato and Aristotle (Author’s Purpose, Ideas vs. Form, Ethics, Politics, Views on Women, Legacy). (LA.A.2.4.2, LA.A.2.2.7) (Philosophy Venn Diagram)
  2. Read excepts of Socrates’ Apology and Plato’s Republic (Book VII: The Allegory of the Cave). (LA.A.1.4.2, LA.A.2.4.1, SS.A.1.4, SS.A.2.4)
  3. Read my college essay on The Republic. (I remember I got a ‘B+’ on it).

Tonight’s homework is:

  1. Read pages 122-125 in the textbook.  Answer questions 1 and 3 on your blog.
  2. Read pages 130-132 in the textbook.  Answer questions 2 and 4 on your blog.
  3. Read pages 133-137 in the textbook.  Answer question 2 on your blog.
  4. Comment on your peers’ essay in your peer editing groups using the comment form. (LA.A.B.1.4)

I am not trying to get attention or anything like that, I just wanted to let you know, that I am sorry I did not finish this assignment.
I will be sure to finish it tomorrow, hopefully I get the credit. I did do page 125, but for different reasons I was not able to finish the others. I don’t want to find a million excuses of why I didn’t do it. So I wanted to inform you I will have it done by tomorrow.

    Thank you.
